H006. Jade Guanyin (Northern Wei Dynasty,AD 222-589)  Height: 26cm,Bottom width: 26cm,Thick.:14.8 cm, (The left foot is perpendicular, to the back of the back )

This sapphire Guanyin is simple in style and solemn in appearance. It shows kindness and honesty, rich and powerful form, and extraordinary charm. It is a pure style of the Northern Wei Dynasty sculpture. The rust of the rust surface and the color of the jade are harmonious and precious! The knives carved by the Jade Goddess of Mercy are round and refined, and the ancient feel is strong! Features are as follows: 1. Wearing a high crown (like a tower) is very similar to the high crown shape of the pottery figurines unearthed in the Northern Wei Dynasty.

  1. The face is sloppy, and it is one of the great features of the Northern Wei Dynasty (more obvious to the Tang Dynasty). These two points can be seen from the east wall of the Grottoes Cave of the North Weigong County and the Buddha statue of the South Wall!
  2. The costumes of Guanyin Bodhisattva are multi-lined and simple, with chest straps and belts floating, which is the simple art style of the Northern Wei Dynasty.
  3. Jade Guanyin's hand-shaped hypertrophy, the length of the five toes of the feet are equal, almost neatly cut like a knife! This style is not for the sculptures of future generations!

On the other hand, Guanyin Bodhisattva was a male in the early days of ancient times! The most prosperous period of Buddhism in the Northern and Southern Dynasties gradually turned into women. This is a circumstance that can be proved: in the image of the Bodhisattva at the southern end of the upper wall of the east wall of the 11th Grotto of Yungang, the Northern Wei Dynasty, the name of the Buddha is engraved on each side of the image, and the Guanyin Bodhisattva is carved into a male; but the opposite is the Northern Wei Dynasty. The Guanyin statue at the 69th Cave of the Maiji Mountain Grottoes is a woman. The appearance of this female jade Guanyin is the most valuable material indisputable for the gender debate in the early history of Guanyin! The transition from male to female began in the Northern Wei Dynasty!
