G001 Jade Door Knockers with Phoenix Pendants (Early Western Han Dynasty, 206 BC-AD8)

In the ancient times, it was a "door knocker". It was placed outside the main entrance. There was a ring underneath. When a guest came, knocked on the door with a buckle. This ring is to be slammed, so the copper is used more, and in the place where the ring is hit, a copper button is needed to increase the sound and protect the door.

The jade's paving head is only a beautiful ornament on the door. It can't be knocked, otherwise there is danger of knocking. Most of the door knockers animal-faced, with a spectacular view. There are also other shapes. The Jade door knocker is that the device that  is made of one whole piece of jade. This kind of hollowing is a special technique for connecting the live ring.
